Technology rating
Starkey's release of the Genesis AI hearing aids in October 2023 showcased a comprehensive lineup, featuring the RIC-RT, mRIC-R, rechargeable, and custom In-Ear models. Positioned as the standard performance level within the range, the Starkey Genesis AI 16 hearing aids combine an array of new features and cutting-edge technology while maintaining some familiar elements that have garnered popularity among wearers of Starkey hearing aids.
New processing chip
The incorporation of the Neuro Sound Processing Technology within the updated processing chip, Neuro Sound, marks a significant advancement, boasting a fivefold increase in computational memory and a tenfold surge in non-volatile memory.
This technology enables the hearing aids to efficiently process sounds, compensating for auditory gaps resulting from hearing loss by emulating the functioning of a natural auditory system at an impressive rate of 80 million times per hour.
Consequently, users can expect improved clarity in speech, heightened sensitivity to softer sounds, and reduced listening strain, ensuring an optimal auditory experience across diverse listening environments.
The aesthetics, app and battery life
The external aesthetics of the Starkey Genesis AI 16 hearing aids have had a notable transformation, distinguishing themselves from previous devices in both the Receiver in Canal and custom models, particularly in the sleeker design of the Receiver in Canal (RIC) model. The integration of smaller components contributes to a more compact overall design.
The battery life of the Starkey Genesis AI 16 models should prove to be a standout feature, offering an industry-leading rechargeable battery with an impressive 51 hours of usage on a single charge. Similarly, the more compact Genesis AI miniRIC model (mRIC) guarantees a substantial 41 hours of power - enabling extended usage without frequent recharging.
There are also larger In-Ear devices with rechargeable options offering wearers an impressive 36 hours of usage, expanding possibilities for prolonged usage without interruptions.
The recent Starkey app aims to address past complexities, presenting a user-friendly interface and incorporating 'how-to' videos to simplify the app's usability and emphasise the most valuable features for wearers.
While keeping the option between disposable or rechargeable batteries with extended lifespans, maintaining unchanged Bluetooth connectivity, and retaining the essential Deep Neural Network (DNN) for managing background noise, the Starkey Genesis AI 16 models ensure consistency and reliability in their performance.
The models and comparing Genesis AI 16 with 24
Compared to the Genesis AI 24 models, the Genesis AI 16 hearing aids feature a slightly reduced number of programming channels, wind noise reduction, and speech-in-noise reduction, while retaining Edge Mode and assistant features, albeit omitting transcription, tap control, or translation capabilities.
The Starkey Genesis AI 16 hearing aid models offer endurance and day-long comfort. The lineup includes two Receiver in Canal devices, rechargeable In-Ear aids in full and half shell designs, as well as non-wireless Completely in Canal (CIC) and Invisible in the Canal (IIC) options, catering to diverse user preferences and needs.
