I have moderate hearing loss in both ears and it not only affects my ability to hear but also my balance. I know that hearing aids will probably help me hear better based on my doctor’s opinion, but I’m also kind of excited that it might be able to help with my balance too? I’m aware that the part of the ear that handles balance is not the same as the part that handles hearing, but still I have high hopes. Can hearing aids affect balance?
I am not aware of hearing aids ever affecting balance. You are right about the connection between the two though. The semi-circular canals of the inner ear which are responsible for our sense of balance are connected to the cochlea which is the organ that we hear through and is also in the inner ear. The fluid within both these chambers is the same fluid and passes between the two. It is unlikely that the hearing aids will make your balance better but they will most certainly make your hearing perception better.
